Week 8 report and league table from the Sandrock Services indoor cricket league.

Young Cavaliers 166-1 beat Wootton 100-5 by 66 runs

Bembridge 96-2 beat Binstead Royals 93-4 by 4 wickets

Freshwater 118-0 beat Arreton 116 all out by 6 wickets

Cask & Crispn 126-4 beat Ryde Colts 108-3 by 18 runs

In the first round of games after the Christmas adjournment, there were wins for Bembridge, Young Cavaliers, Freshwater and Cask & Crispin.

Batting first against Bembridge, Binstead struggled to score at an adequate rate against some accurate opening overs from Pete Macdonald (1-14) and Kieran Thompson (0-13). A lively partnership between Geoff Smith and Chris Hebberd revived the innings, but the Royals’ closing score of 93-4 was not going to seriously trouble Bembridge’s strong batting line-up and Bembridge duly won by 4 wickets, with Lee Thompson scoring 25 not out.

Young Cavaliers amassed 166-1 against Wootton. Andy Loudon top scored with 37 not out, and there were also significant contributions from Jordan Galsworthy, Harry Bradley and Jack Austin. Seemingly resigned to defeat from the start of their innings, Wootton limped to 100-5. Kieran Thompson collected 3 wickets and finished with impressive figures of 3-12 from his three overs.

Cask & Crispin caused an upset by beating Ryde Colts. The Crispin posted a competitive score of 126-4. Chris Ash made 28 not out and their scoring was augmented by some curiously profligate bowling from¬†their opponents,¬†which yielded 55 runs in wides. The Colts’ batting was no less indifferent than their bowling; they never looked like overhauling the Crispin’s score and their innings finished on 108-3, 18 runs short of the target.

Freshwater dismissed Arreton for 116. Gary Cooper and Carl Prean gave Arreton with a good start, but Freshwater stifled the flow of runs in the latter stages of the innings and wickets fell as the pressure mounted. Jason Swain returned figures of 3-23 and then featured in a good opening stand with Graham Gosden as Freshwater romped to a 6 wicket victory.

Bembridge lead the table with 14 points and are followed by Young Cavaliers, Freshwater and Ryde Youth, who all have 12 points.
